Buff Undergraduate Success

Since its start in October 2021, the Buff Undergraduate Success (BUS) effort has developed and implemented policies, procedures, and actions to improve and support the experiences of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Ʒ’s undergraduate students.

Operating from an updated charge issued in January 2024 from Provost Russell Moore and Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Rourke, the BUS leadership implementation team (LIT) has been directed to continue its work focused within the following framework:

  • To allocate resources and create a campus community of practice around student success that will achieve the goals of enhancing the student experience and their sense of academic and social belonging.
  • To increase retention and graduation rates.
  • To provide more stability and direction to our enrollment management strategy and curricular planning.
  • To implement a process to analyze, prioritize, and make resource recommendations for undergraduate student success efforts, making it possible for ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· to implement decisions surrounding student success efforts and priorities in a timely, effective, and transparent manner.
  • To focus on cross-functional and cross-campus collaboration that result in policy and process improvement for all undergraduate students and particularly for underrepresented students from historically marginalized groups, from their first day on campus through the fourth semester.

The BUS effort uses an agile project management approach that focuses on delivering value through continuous improvement. This approach allows the team to continuously evaluate and prioritize its work, adapt to changes more quickly, and routinely collaborate with stakeholders to identify the best solution. With each deliverable, metrics are collected and used to evaluate and quantify any immediate change and help to define future effort.
