The Center for African & African American Studies Graduate Student Summer Fellowships
The Center for African & African American Studies Graduate Student Summer Fellowships (aka the “CAAAS Grad Student Summer Fellowships”) are for University of Colorado Boulder graduate students conducting research and creative work in African studies, African American studies, and African diaspora studies who do not already receive university-sponsored or external funding (in any amount) during the summer months. The $6,000 stipend will be paid out in $2,000 payments in June, July, and August. All ýĻƷ graduate students with demonstrable research and creative work in African studies, African American studies, and/or African diaspora studies are eligible to apply.
Call for Applications: Opens January 15, 2024, and Closes March 15, 2024
Deadline: March 15, 2024. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Eligibility:
Students must be currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral level program at ýĻƷ and be enrolled in Fall 2024 courses.
Students must be doing research or creative work in African studies, African American studies, and/or African diaspora studies. Applicants who come from departments or programs outside of traditional African studies, African American studies, and/or African diaspora studies disciplines should clearly demonstrate how their research or creative work engages with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary African studies, African American studies, and/or African diaspora studies subjects, histories, theories, methods, and archives, etc.
Any eligible graduate student may submit an application with the exception of students who have received summer fellowships and/or funding from ýĻƷ or external sources.
Students may not have another summer fellowship or receive a stipend (in any amount), which means that those already guaranteed university-sponsored funding are not eligible to apply. This includes Summer Lecturer, Graduate Part-Time Instructor (GPTI), Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant, or Graduate Assistant appointments. If you apply and are awarded and then obtain university-sponsored funding at a later date, please email rabaka@colorado.edu to relinquish your CAAAS Grad Student Summer Fellowship. The CAAAS’s goal is to provide students with a stipend who have no other summer funding.
Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered.
