Dr. Ernesto R. 础肠别惫别诲辞-惭耻帽辞锄 is the author of the books West Side Story as Cinema: The Making and Impact of an American Masterpiece (University Press of Kansas, 2013), Pedro Almod贸var (British Film Institute 2007/2009), and Bu帽uel and Mexico: The Crisis of National Cinema (University of California Press, 2003). His works have appeared in many journals and collections including Quarterly Review of Film & Video, Film & History, Lit, Letras peninsulares, Short Film Studies, Mise-au-Point, After Hitchcock, Authorship in Film Adaptation, Contemporary Spanish Cinema and Genre, A Companion to Luis Bu帽uel, Genre Gender Race and World Cinema, Hollywood at the Intersection of Race and Identity, The Bloomsbury Companion to Stanley Kubrick, and The Cambridge Companion to West Side Story. From 2019 to 2022 he served as a member of the 鈥淐ommunity Advisory Board鈥 for Steven Spielberg鈥檚 West Side Story.
Awards and other Works
He is the winner of the Leslie and Woody Eaton Faculty Award for 鈥淓xcellence in Research in the Humanities and the Arts,鈥 the Marinus G. Smith 鈥淓xcellence in Teaching Award鈥 given by the CU Parents Association and a nominee for the Arts & Sciences 鈥淎ward for Excellence in Teaching with Technology.鈥 Prof. 础肠别惫别诲辞-惭耻帽辞锄 has received multiple teaching recognitions from the National Residence Hall Academic Program and was a co-winner of the Vice Chancellor鈥檚 Diversity and Equity Award. His feature-length documentary Hillmon鈥檚 Bones (2010) was screened competitively at various film festivals, including Big Muddy and the Flagstaff Film Festival, and was broadcast as part of 鈥淭he Best of Big Muddy鈥 program on PBS affiliate WSIU TV.
Teaching & Leadership
At CU, he teaches courses on film theory and aesthetics, Latin American and Spanish cinemas and culture, and Hollywood genres including 鈥淭he Hollywood Musical,鈥 鈥淎merican Horror Film,鈥 "The Western & its Contexts,鈥 and 鈥淟ives of 007.鈥 He also teaches courses on directors Luis Bu帽uel and Pedro Almod贸var, Stanley Kubrick, and Alfred Hitchcock.
Dr. 础肠别惫别诲辞-惭耻帽辞锄 has spoken at conferences, symposia, and film festivals in the U.S., the U.K., Spain, Mexico, Canada, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico, his native country. He has taught at NYU in Madrid (Spain), at the Cine Club Universitario of the State University of Zulia (Maracaibo, Venezuela), and with the 鈥淪emester at Sea鈥 Program through nineteen countries and five continents around the world including Brazil, Morocco, Ghana, South Africa, Greece, Turkey, Malta, India, Vietnam, China, and Japan. He is Faculty Director of our Education Abroad Global Seminars 鈥淐inema & the City: Paris, France鈥 and 鈥淐inema & the City: Rome, Italy.鈥
Under his leadership, the 鈥淔ilm Studies Program鈥 was promoted to Department status, re-named 鈥淐inema Studies & Moving Image Arts,鈥 and received national recognition with mentions in 鈥淏est Programs鈥 lists in Movie Maker Magazine, No Film School, Filmmaker Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, and other publications.
