Group photoFaculty in the Department of Information Science and joined the听ongoing effort at the University of Colorado Boulder to run the awards听event for the Colorado NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Award, now in its听seventh year.听听The event, sponsored by the (NCWIT), headquartered here on campus, has been run听by Ken Anderson of the Department of Computer Science in the College of听Engineering and Applied Science.

This year, a team of faculty from across听the the University of Colorado in computer science, ATLAS听and information听science came together to plan an even bigger and better event, hosting a听half-day long program honoring and supporting high school women鈥筧nd their听teachers鈥箇ho are excelling in computing.

Sixty-nine high-school women were honored from across听Colorado. Faculty Casey Fiesler (INFO), Danielle Szafir (INFO), Ben听Shapiro (ATLAS) and Ken Anderson (CS) were supported by Edie Cheng, Kaivi听Kumar, Ammi Ludwick, Ruthe Farmer and Lucy Sanders of NCWIT for the day鹿s听activities, which included a pre-event workshop and a panel of technical听women from industry and academia.

The event was a year in planning, with听students, schools, and teachers from across the state applying to the听program last fall.

Financial sponsors of the event included ViaWest,听Twitter, the Zayo Group and Medtronic, who also contributed to the prizes听that were given to the awardees at the event.
