"In my Climate Justice Storytelling class, we discussed an already-existing story map of North Denver/Commerce City. Having grown up near there, I had some insider knowledge of the reality of living in the area, particularly concerning environmental pollution. During a visit to my brother, I noticed that noise pollution was constant, but when reexamining the CDPHE StoryMap, I saw it was mentioned only once.

This project challenged my thinking about pollution sources and made me more aware of them. For instance, while I had seen the buildings and the constant smog they expel, I was not fully aware of the harsh realities they were inflicting on my neighbors, particularly in Globeville and Elyria-Swansea. It is important for local storytelling to reflect the communities they are about with as much humility and accuracy as possible, which was my overall goal in making this zine.
