An initiative based in CMCI鈥檚 will strengthen water journalism through original content, support for journalists, public engagement, and education. The Water Desk, funded by a two-year, $700,000 grant from the Walton Family Foundation, is dedicated to boosting coverage of Western water issues, with a focus on the Colorado River Basin. The goal is to help educate the public and inform policy decisions.

鈥淪ome 40 million people in the United States and Mexico draw water from the basin, and the region is confronting unprecedented challenges managing its most precious natural resource,鈥 says Professor Tom Yulsman, director of the CEJ.

Students in Yulsman鈥檚 class Reporting on the Environment focused on water issues last spring, and CU News Corps鈥攁n investigative journalism capstone course鈥攚ill do so in the fall.
