Their efforts include recruiting speakers, logistics of event planning, panel assembly all catering to their student and community audience interests.&nbsp;</p> <p>"Our student volunteer group, which can grow to over 100 students each spring, spends countless hours brainstorming topics, inviting speakers,&nbsp;and helps&nbsp;to assemble over 200 events in one week, along with the logistcal challenges associated with an event of this size," says <strong>Lauren Daniels</strong>, CWA Student Program Chair. "We've never been able to quantify that work in any formal way; this certificate program provides recognition for all of the hard work they have done and for their outstanding performance and involvement with the conference."</p> <p>The certification process, established by CU senior and CWA Student Vice Chair, <strong>William Romano</strong>, requires that CWA student volunteers make substantial contributions to their CWA program subcommittee (the subcommittes broken out by topic that make up the CWA program committee), have&nbsp;an active volunteer role during CWA week, and engage&nbsp;other students in the event so that their impact can benefit future events&nbsp;after they leave their position.</p> <p>"We're hoping that this certificate program not only recognizes our student volunteers for their efforts, but gives our student group a greater structure and&nbsp;goal to work towards each year of the CWA," said William Romano, CWA Student Program Vice Chair. "Each year we want to leave the conference better than it was the year before,&nbsp;and engage more students so that it continues to thrive and benefit the CU community for many years to come."</p> <p>For information on how to get involved and the many different student volunteer opportunities, visit our <strong><a href="/cwa/node/256" rel="nofollow">Student Volunteer Webpage</a></strong>.</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div>The Conference on World Affairs student leadership team has established a new CWA student leader certificate program in which student volunteers can gain recognition for their efforts in planning the annual Boulder tradition.</div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Mon, 16 Nov 2020 01:14:52 +0000 Anonymous 3239 at /cwa CWA Speaker Ambassadors Gain Real World Connections /cwa/2019/01/03/cwa-speaker-ambassadors-gain-real-world-connections <span>CWA Speaker Ambassadors Gain Real World Connections</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2019-01-03T15:08:15-07:00" title="Thursday, January 3, 2019 - 15:08">Thu, 01/03/2019 - 15:08</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/cwa/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/speed_chatting.cc033.jpg?h=681c29f3&amp;itok=qHWZFpBV" width="1200" height="600" alt="Thaller"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/cwa/taxonomy/term/24" hreflang="en">news</a> <a href="/cwa/taxonomy/term/319" hreflang="en">student news</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p>Being a member of the <a href="/cwa/node/1408" rel="nofollow">Conference on World Affairs (CWA)</a>&nbsp;Student Volunteer Committee comes with many perks:&nbsp;the chance to&nbsp;invite speakers from anywhere in the world to campus, the ability to design conference&nbsp;panels&nbsp;and the opportunity to participate in the <a href="/cwa/node/1142" rel="nofollow"><strong>CWA Speaker&nbsp;Ambassador program</strong></a>.</p> <p>CWA speaker ambassadors are paired with a CWA speaker&nbsp;to serve as their campus connection for the week of the conference; they have lunch with their assigned speaker, show them around campus, and often gain valuable advice and&nbsp;career connections. It was so great to meet him and we kept in touch via&nbsp;email&nbsp;over the summer.&nbsp; He connected me with two space anthropologists, and even checked in with me to make sure I was watching the eclipse!"</em></p> </blockquote> <p dir="ltr">Rashel was also interested in the work of&nbsp;CWA speaker <a href="/cwa/node/454" rel="nofollow">William Ryerson</a>, President of the Population Media Center, and introduced herself during the conference. She and Ryerson stayed in touch after the CWA, and <strong>Rashel was offered and accepted a summer&nbsp;internship in Montreal with Ryerson's organization </strong>doing&nbsp;cultural research on population demographics for other countries with a focus on Africa.</p> <h6 dir="ltr"><strong>Olwyn Doyle (Political Science), a</strong>mbassador for <a href="/cwa/node/568" rel="nofollow">Marshall Steinbaum</a>, Senior Economist and&nbsp;Fellow,&nbsp;Roosevelt Institute:</h6> <blockquote> <p dir="ltr"><em>"The speaker ambassador program is a really great way to get to know someone who is an expert in your field and build a personal relationship with them. The speakers are all very supportive and appreciative of the ambassador program, so they are absolutely approachable. Marshall and I went to get coffee one day and we talked about everything from world politics, to the student government at Boulder, to how people approach Econ as a field. It was really relaxed, and it was awesome to talk with someone with a different perspective on all of these things."</em></p> </blockquote> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Kristina Schoonover, (International Affairs) ambassador for <a href="/cwa/node/362" rel="nofollow">Mark Fallon</a>, International Security Consultant:</strong></p> <blockquote> <p dir="ltr"><em>"I had an amazing experience as Mark's ambassador,&nbsp;I was able to learn a lot from him and take away some pretty amazing advice. Throughout the week I was able to share my thoughts on current issues as well as hear his, and the coolest part&nbsp;is that this experience has continued as a mentorship.
