How do you enjoy practicing self-care and/or community care?

Community care is a priority for me. I teach barre at the Colorado Mesa University gym — the movement and camaraderie keeps me grounded. Additionally, I go to the gym twice a week with co-workers to cycle, weight lift, or do yoga. I also meet regularly with my book club, and it's a time to connect and unwind.

Describe one of your favorite traditions.

For New Year's Eve, our framily (friends who are family) hosts a "Tot Off" — a competition of who can create the best tater tot dish. Last year's winner was the Beef Strogan-tot. My crab rangoon tater tot casserole received mixed reviews. I'm open to any and all tot ideas.

What is an ordinary moment in your life that brings you joy?

Hiking with my partner, Kevin, and my dog, Archie, brings me so much joy. I'm grateful that my life is filled with ordinary moments like this.

Where is the best place you've traveled to and why?

Alaska is magical and wild. My partner surprised me with the trip following my master's graduation. We visited Denali National Park, Chena Hot Springs, and the Kenai peninsula/Kenai Fjords National Park. I was in awe of the scenery and frequent wildlife sightings — so many brown bears, moose, orcas, whales, and cute little otters — just to name a few!

What have been some meaningful ways in which you have felt welcomed to CEAS?

The CEAS team has welcomed me with open arms, which makes me feel so grateful! My supervisor, Karen Ganss, has sent me several handwritten notes welcoming me to the team and encouraging me throughout my onboarding process. I've also loved how personable my mentor, Toni Gossett, has been each time we've connected.

What is a motto or quote that you hold dear and why?

One of my favorite supervisors told me, "Nobody is an expert in everything. It's OK to not know. It's not OK to not find out." This quote has guided my professional career and helped me navigate challenging new endeavors with a positive mindset.
