Check out the next generation of engineers in action on April 26

A student shows off her aerospace engineering project at the 2018 expo.

The Buffs athletic teams will have to take a rest day on April 26 – the engineers are taking over.

The second-annual Engineering Projects Expo will be setting up shop in the Indoor Practice Facility next to Folsom Stadium. The general public, as well as CU students, faculty and staff are invited to attend from 2-4:45 p.m., and to stay for the awards ceremony immediately after.

During the event, more than 130 teams of ambitious students will display the hands-on capstone engineering projects they’ve spent the past year perfecting. Some are sponsored by industry partners or ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· faculty members, while others are entrepreneurial ideas developed by students.

Projects on display will include:

  • Stride Tech, winner of the New Venture Challenge, with a walker accessory that detects and corrects dangerous walker use habits and monitors users’ gait to prevent falls.
  • A multi-disciplinary team sponsored by Siemens Gamesa that has developed a drone-based imaging system to identify defects in wind turbine blades.
  • Puppy Pal Prosthetics, a lightweight, cost-effective and adjustable canine limb prosthetic.
  • Chive, a recipe-finding, fridge-managing, money-saving kitchen assistant.
  • Smokejumper, a quadcopter fire extinguisher that uses sound waves to put out flames.

Also new this year is an informal networking event for graduating students. Project sponsors and their company's recruiters will be invited to connect with students during the expo after getting an early preview of their projects.
