Internship: Floodplain Management internship

Boulder County鈥檚 Floodplain Management Program is seeking candidates for a paid internship during the summer of 2020, with high potential for extension into the fall and winter. The hourly pay rate is $17.42 per hour.

This is an opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain valuable experience working at the human- environmental interface, specifically in the areas of flood hazard assessment, disaster resilience, environmental permitting, and public engagement. The intern will both lead and assist in a variety of floodplain management activities, including:

  • Using spatial data (ArcGIS) and hydraulic data (HEC-RAS) to make floodplain determinations and conduct analyses related to flood hazards.
  • Reviewing plans for development in the regulatory floodplain for compliance with county floodplain regulations.
  • Issuing and closing Floodplain Development Permits and performing related administrative tasks.
  • Developing a field inspection protocol to document compliance with Floodplain Development Permits.
  • Developing systems for tracking permit status and other floodplain-related documentation.
  • Writing content related to Boulder County floodplain management for the program website.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong verbal communication skills and a working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and ArcGIS mapping software. Valid Colorado driver鈥檚 license.
  • Experience working in both customer service and data management.
  • Interest in the analysis, mapping, and management of the interface between humans and flooding hazards.
