IBG Student Mina Griffioen received an award from the Sheryl R. Young Memorial Fellowship

Mina Griffioen was selected to receive a second-place award for the Sheryl R. Young Memorial Fellowship of $2,000 for the 2023-2024 academic year. The family of
Dr. Young along with Dean Adler selected her on the basis of her nomination by the Department of Integrative Physiology and Professor Kenneth Wright.

Sheryl R. Young was an energetic, enthusiastic, brilliant young woman. From early in life, she demonstrated drive, excitement at new things, verve, and a concentration that allowed her to
focus on very difficult goals and problems. She was a multifaceted person with diverse interests such as scuba diving, gardening, and classical music, which complemented her talent and energy.

Dr. Young received her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1984 in the Department of Psychology. She was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University where she was internationally known in computer science. She was a strong supporter of women鈥檚 causes in the sciences.
