ElizabethÌýAchulo

Elizabeth currently works for the University of Colorado at Boulder at theÌýCampus Controller’s Office.ÌýShe volunteers for a teamÌýcalled Foundations for Leaders Organizing for Water and SustabilityÌý(FLOWS) at theÌýCU Environmental Center which pushed her to think more deeply about the issues that negatively impact our climate and itÌýpropelled her to join the Climate Justice Leaders Program. Through the program she learnedÌýthat in order to see meaningful change, leadership must come from front line communities, including low-income communities like her own. ElizabethÌýfirmly believes that in order for everyone toÌýbe included in conversations regardingÌýclimate justice, both community members and leadersÌýhave to work together to better understand the needs of their communityÌýand insure that all voices are heard, especially whenÌýlow income folks are left out of the equation.ÌýSheÌýwould like to see aÌýcomprehensive agenda in BoulderÌýwhere all types ofÌýpeople work together, with a shared vision,Ìýfor a healthy environment and a better future for everyone. Elizabeth is a mother of two beautiful childrenÌýandÌýis originally from South Sudan. Her first time flying was when she moved to Colorado and she still remembers how sheÌýshook a lot of people’s hands in DIA's waiting area because sheÌýthought everyone was thereÌýto receive her. To this dayÌýsheÌýstill cringes and laughs at herself when sheÌýremembers that day!
