• Our amazing students and alumni never cease to inspire: In Professor of Musicology Rob Shay’s MUSC 4202 class last spring, Emma Shelby—who graduated in May (BA)—researched the music of Maddalena Casulana, the first published woman composer (at least in the Western world). According to Shay, her works appeared in several Italian prints in the 1560s and 1570s. Shelby discovered that one of Casulana’s madrigals, previously thought to survive only in an incomplete state, has in fact come down to us in a complete state in a printed anthology from the time, which survives in a library in France. Shelby has since : Wow! 
• : College of Music alumna Colorado native Katie Mahan is collaborating with Colorado Public Radio on a series called “Mozart Snapshots”—taking listeners on a journey through Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life in Salzburg, Austria. She talks with Salzburger Marionettentheater’s artistic director Philippe Brunner about the theater’s full-length opera productions using hand-carved marionettes.
