Underscoring the College of Music’s commitment to providing a comprehensive education beyond the classroom walls, our Thompson Jazz Studies Program led an immersion trip to the vibrant musical landscape of Havana over spring break. “With nearly 30 student and faculty participants, we experienced the local culture—incredible people, music, art and food—and worked alongside Ruy López-Nussa, Alejandro Falcon and other master musicians who were so generous with their time and knowledge,” says Professor of Jazz Studies John Gunther. “This trip broadened our understanding of Afro-Cuban music and Latin jazz, and our appreciation for the cultural nuances ​​and shared histories that shape all the diverse styles of jazz we are studying and performing.”

• April 10, “Musical Dialogues”: Our Entrepreneurship Center for Music (ECM) will host a networking event that connects students and area music professionals. Says Marilyn Brock, ECM interim director: “Oftentimes, networking can feel like this prescribed, formulaic thing and really it’s just about leaning into who you are, bringing your own authentic self and developing connections with other musicians.” Join us, Music Buffs!
• April 9-12, Conference on World Affairs: On Friday, April 12, don’t miss our own Dean John Davis who will moderate The Future of Music panel featuring speakers Matt Jones and Hunter Leggitt. 
• April 13, “devising hope”: Join us for a new interactive, walk-through multimedia installation work by Assistant Professor of Composition and new media artist that welcomes its audience to participate in the creation of sounds and sights alike. Be immersed in a world of shimmering iridescence and swirling harmonicas, also featuring a live ambient performance by the College of Music’s Trombone Ensemble! 
• April 26: will pay homage to the Dead’s history in Boulder: “Lights—Sound—Dialogue” will be hosted by G. Brown, founder of the Colorado Music Experience, and will feature College of Music alumnus and music theory lecturer Micheal Sebulsky, among others.
