Please note the following delivery schedules and revised order dates for the upcoming holidays.

Thanksgiving, week of November 21st:

There is no change in the delivery schedule for any vendors but please submit orders by noon on Tuesday, November 22nd as the vendor offices will be closed for the holiday.

Christmas and New Year’s

Please note the following announcements from the vendors regarding Christmas and New Year’s deliveries:

Charles River Labs, ENVIGO, Jackson and Taconic:

NO deliveries the week of December 26th
New Year’s: delayed one day to Tuesday, January 3^rd.

NIA:

Orders for mid-December/early January delivery should be placed early in December. The BRB Order Desk is closed from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day.

No deliveries will be scheduled the weeks of December 26^th and January 2^nd.

Martin Luther King Day:

Monday, January 16^th is a University holiday and we will not be receiving animal shipments that week. Please plan orders to arrive the prior or following weeks.

Please plan accordingly.

On May 23, 2016, we notified you of an article published May 19 by Mahajan et al. in Cell Reports suggesting C57BL/6NHsd mice from Envigo carry a spontaneous Dock2 mutation. We committed to further investigate the presence or absence of the Dock2hsd mutation in the C57BL/6NHsd strain and related substrains bred at Envigo globally.

The results of our investigation indicate that the mutation is present in six of the 19 facilities in which we have maintained these models (see table below).

Spontaneous mutations can occur at any time and are not preventable. Additionally, the scientific literature describes multiple spontaneous mutations that have occurred within the C57BL/6 mouse from commercial suppliers, including but not limited to nicotinamide nucleotide transhydrogenase (Nnt), alpha synuclein (Scna), multimerin 1 (Mnrn1), and retinal degeneration 8 (Rd8) (Chang et al., 2002; Huang et al., 2006; Reheman et al., 2010; Specht et al., 2001). Details regarding these mutations are available here.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide our customers accurate information, we are now further analyzing the expression and characteristics of the Dock2hsd mutation in C57BL/6NHsd mice and hybrid mice with one C57BL/6NHsd parent and will provide these results once available.

The C57BL/6NHsd is utilized extensively in research and Envigo maintains this strain in multiple locations. Moving forward, we will continue to ship C57BL/6NHsd mice based on customer preference; please let us know if you would like to receive your animals from a specific location.

The Office of Animal Resources has been working to streamline the animal transfer process for both research staff and administrative approval. Below are some things to keep in mind when using the new transfer program.

Online Submissions

OAR and the university IACUC will move all transfers to the new online system starting October 1, 2015. At that point, research staff should place all requests through that system.

Needed Items

The online form will require most of the information that was previously required. Those items are: Current and New PI information, Speed types for all protocols used, contact information for the requester, current PI and new PI, all basic animal information (including housing location), list of procedures, enrichment exemptions, and housing requirements.

New Information Needed

Research staff that request a transfer will need to know the Topaz cage card number located at the top and bottom of the barcoded cage card. The Office of Animal Resources will only transfer whole cages, meaning that when transfers are made of less than a whole cage, a cage split/ weaning must first be requested and completed.

**In the event that a protocol renewal is taking places, where all animals on a protocol are being transferred, research staff should type “all cages” in the topaz cage card number field.

Facility To Facility Transfers

Transfers between two facilities will take place on Tuesdays at 9am. Submissions for a facility to facility transfer have a deadline of Thursdays at 6PM to make the following Tuesday.

Marking Cages For Transfer

All cages to be transferred should be marked with a Transfer Flag. These flags are available in each facility (contact your facility manager for their location).

Standing Transfers

The Office of Animal Resources will not be honoring standing transfers starting October 1, 2015. Each instance of a transfer needing to take place, should be submitted using the new online form.

Post Approval

Transfers will be carried out by, or in coordination with, the care staff within the facility(s) where the transfer is taking place. Research staff should not conduct transfers or procedures until notification of approval.
