Prof. Gayley receives Provost Faculty Achievement Award

Love Letters from Golok, cover

This fall, Professor Holly Gayley was awarded one of the Provost's Faculty Achievement Awards. In a competitive selection process, the award is given to "selected faculty members who have offered recent significant publications or creative contributions in their academic fields." Gayley's award was given in recognition of her 2016 monograph, Love Letters from Golok: A Tantric Couple in Modern Tibet, published by Columbia University Press. The selection committee commended the combination of ethnographic and literary analysis to investigate the revitalization of Tibetan Buddhism in the post-Mao era, specifically the extensive correspondence between Khandro Tare Lhamo and Namtrul Rinpoche in preparation for their religious careers together in the 1980s and 90s.
