Assessment / Evaluation

The purpose of assessment / evaluation is to identify communication strengths and areas of challenge or weakness in order to determine best possible treatment options. Clients and families generally begin with an in-depth interview to understand the communication abilities and nuances of difficulties the client (and family) experiences in different situations. Based on the priorities of the client, the evaluation team will plan formal and informal measures that may include observations, standardized tests and questionaires. The assessment / evaluation concludes with a results sharing session to provide clinical recommendations and answers to any questions.

Following an assessment / evaluation, intervention addresses identified areas of communication challenges or weakness often utilizing the client's areas of strength. At the beginning of intervention, goals are set with client. The treatment approach including strategies and activities is individualized for the client. Progress is monitored throughout to make any adjustments as needed, ending with a final report that summarizes progress made toward the communication goals.

Each semester, we provide a "Hears to You" class for adults with hearing loss and their family members.

AR Class Review: Your organization of the presentations and handouts added much to encourage the active participation of each and every attendee. Each of you generously injected personal experiences into the discussions. This gave us a sincere belief that you personally understand our daily mental state of anxiety. Thanks to you all for choosing this profession, one that requires much patience and a soft bedside manner for an invisible defect. I think I speak for all attendees, that we left feeling we can do something, however small, to help ourselves and have a place to rejuvenate our spirits when we have that need.

Preschool Program

Toddler Play Group

You will not find a better preschool experience for your child than what they'll get at the CLC. We are in our third year there, and I am confident that my children will go into kindergarten socially, emotionally, and academically ready. I wish they could teach the kinds of interpersonal skills that the kids learn here at every preschool. I am grateful for the compassion and patience that are modelled and encouraged towards peers that struggle with social interactions. I have a son with special needs, and while I wish I'd known about the CLC when he was a preschooler, I am grateful I've given this experience to his younger brother and sister so that they could have exposure to peers of all abilities. I have been consistently impressed with every clinician who has worked with my children, and I cannot say enough good things about the teacher-mentors. Lest my glowing review appear to be suspiciously positive, I will give one critique - the parking situation has, at times, been frustrating. But that is honestly the only negative I've encountered in over two years with the CLC. I will miss it terribly when my kids "graduate" in April, and I will always be grateful for the gifts they have been given there. This place is a hidden gem. You will find nothing else like it in the Boulder area. Thank you, CU, for providing this opportunity for families of special needs and neurotypical kids alike. And thank you, Teacher LJ, for your tireless work and endless love for our kids - you're making the world a better place, ten preschoolers at a time!
