With many students planning to leave campus at the end of the semester, here some tips and general reminders.

Preparing for move-out

Donate items you no longer need

As you get ready for move-out, you may have stuff you no longer need or want. Donating your items means you have less to pack up and move and gives your items a second life.

  • There will be donation locations available in residence halls to collect unopened non-perishable foods, unwanted books and school supplies, and unused toiletries, hygiene products and cleaning supplies.
  • Students can also donate items to an off-campus vendor prior to move-out.
  • Unwanted bikes can be donated at the Folsom and UMC bike stations, where they will be refurbished and sold at the annual Bike Sale in the fall.

Reminders for on-campus residents

  • All residence halls are scheduled to close at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Bear Creek closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021. All students except those with summer contracts are required to be moved out by the designated times.
  • Students should return their room to the original move-in condition before moving out. Follow the steps outlined in the cleaning checklist to minimize any damage charges.

Reminders for off-campus residents

  • If you are leaving Boulder for the summer, post your sublet or create a roommate profile on , CU’s rental database.
  • Sublease agreements are available from Off-Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations (OCH&NR). If you have legal concerns about subleasing, you can schedule an appointment with an attorney through OCH&NR for free legal advice.
  • If you will be gone for some time, ask a friend or neighbor to watch your property and consider while you are away. Consider setting your lights on a timer, lock all doors and windows and make sure your valuables are not visible from the outside.
  • Protect your property from a possible flooding situation: If you live in a flood prone area or a basement apartment, remember to remove items from the floor before you leave.
  • Boulder has enacted a bear ordinance that requires all residents west of Broadway to keep their trash secured, either in bear resistant containers or in an enclosed area. If you are subletting this summer, make sure you properly secure your trash.

Travel tips

Complete a monitoring test

Getting tested before traveling is crucial to helping prevent the spread of the virus and protect the health of those around you. Students are strongly encouraged to complete a COVID-19 monitoring test 48 to 72 hours before traveling. should review and follow all airline and destination requirements for traveling, testing and quarantine.

Follow health and safety measures

Use precaution when traveling through places like airports, train stations and other commonly crowded areas to minimize risk. While it may not always be possible to maintain 6 feet of space between everyone, do your best to create additional space between yourself and other travelers. You can take additional precautions to protect yourself and others by wearing a mask and washing your hands or using sanitizer frequently while traveling.

If possible, get your first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before traveling. Vaccines are available through ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· as well as pharmacies, health care providers and large community clinics throughout the state of Colorado.
