Neil Ashby, professor of physics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been named co-chair of the campus聮 Sexual Harassment Committee, according to Chancellor Richard L. Byyny.
Ashby replaces former Co-Chair Jane Bock, professor of environmental, population and organismic biology, who recently stepped down from the committee. The other co-chair is Shari Robertson, administrator in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration.
聯Professor Ashby is one of the most distinguished faculty members on the Boulder campus and I聮m very gratified that he has agreed to take on this important responsibility,聰 Byyny said. 聯The Boulder campus is committed to creating a working and living environment that is free of sexual harassment. Professor Ashby will take a leadership role in helping us achieve that goal.聰
The Sexual Harassment Committee has played a central role in implementing CU-Boulder聮s policy on sexual harassment. In its first 18 months, the committee has heard and recommended action on complaints brought before it, advised the administration on sexual harassment issues, ensured training of faculty, staff and administration, and monitored campus responses to sexual harassment.
Ashby, a former chair of the physics department and of the Boulder Faculty Assembly, has served on the CU-Boulder faculty since 1963. He graduated summa cum laude from CU-Boulder in 1955. He holds a master聮s degree and doctorate from Harvard University. His research is in the area of theoretical relativity.
