University of Colorado Boulder students, faculty, and staff and the Boulder community will be celebrating Earth Week from April 18-24 on campus with a variety of different events.
Sustainability Summit
The events include a campus Sustainability Summit on Thursday, April 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., sponsored by the CU Environmental Center and to be held in the UMC鈥檚 Glenn Miller Ballroom. The event is free and open to CU-Boulder students, faculty, staff and the general public.
The event will focus on the development of a collaborative, community-based process to set a vision and actionable plan for CU-Boulder鈥檚 sustainability in energy and climate, zero waste, water, food, health and wellness. EarthFest
The Environmental Center also is hosting EarthFest听on Friday, April 22, an all day 鈥渆co-social鈥 event featuring local musicians, speakers, poets, workshops and organizations devoted to promoting the welfare of the Earth and all of its inhabitants. EarthFest is sponsored by Biomimicry at Boulder, Solutions Voyage, the CU Cultural Events Board and the City of Boulder and will be held on the UMC South Terrace from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
As part of EarthFest听there is a free discussion on nature-inspired innovation on Saturday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in Benson Earth Sciences room 180 on the main campus. The event will feature Jamie Dwyer, a leader in sustainable architecture from Biomimicry 3.8, a consultant and training organization headquartered in Missoula, Montana. Wild Earth Day
The University of Colorado Museum of Natural History is holding听Wild Earth Day听on Sunday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event will include leaders in the field of environmental communication, climate science and creative entertainment. The event also will include music and dancing, weather balloon launches and live birds of prey and reptiles exhibits. For more information visit the听.听
Decolonize Your Diet
Another Earth Day event, Decolonize Your Diet, is a public discussion on eating local, sustainable and organic foods. It will be held Wednesday, April 20, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the UMC rooms 384-386. The event will include free food and a discussion on food sovereignty and justice, exploring and tasting the concept of a 鈥渄ecolonial鈥 diet through indigenous culinary traditions. Fashion Swap
As part of Earth Week and in collaboration with EarthFest, the CU Environmental Center will host its annual Fashion Swap on Friday, April 22 in UMC 355 from 1 to 5 p.m. Drop off clothes you no longer wear on Wednesday, April 20, in UMC 355 or drop them off at the event Friday. Participants do not need to donate clothes in order to receive them. Surplus clothes will be donated the Greenwood Wildlife Habitat Thriftstore in Boulder.
Fiske shows
In addition, two shows,听Habitat Earth听and听Bella Gaia,听will be shown at Fiske Planetarium on campus from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Narrated by actress Frances McDormand,听Habitat Earth听shows visualizations of the intersection of biological and human-built networks on Earth.
Bella Gaia听is an audiovisual presentation that combines NASA satellite imagery of Earth, time-lapse nature photography and cultural heritage footage featuring live performances of music and dance from around the world. Tickets for the double feature at Fiske are $7 for students, children, seniors and veterans and $10 for the public. For more information visit the听. 听
