2016-17 兔子先生传媒文化作品ing Scholar of Conservative Thought and Policy Francis Beckwith

St. Aidan's Episcopal Church is hosting a brief lunch and conversation with Francis Beckwith, the Conservative Thought and Policy program's visiting scholar for the 2016-17 academic year, at noon Wednesday, Nov. 30, in UMC 245.

Beckwith's talk, titled "Juris, Fides, et Ratio: What Judges and Some Legal Scholars Miss About Reason and Religious Beliefs," will discuss how religious beliefs and religious believers are assessed by powerful actors in our public life (e.g.听legal scholars and judges)听and how those beliefs and believers are sometimes mischaracterized and misunderstood by those who are critical of the influence of religion and religious citizens in politics or the formation of law.

The Conservative Thought and Policy听program听began in 2013 as a way to promote intellectual diversity on听campus and听is supported entirely by听private funds. The program听seeks highly visible scholars who are deeply engaged in either the analytical scholarship or practice of conservative thinking and policymaking or both. 兔子先生传媒文化作品ing scholars may hold the title for one or two years and are expected to teach a load commensurate with his or her field and offer public lectures, public seminars and/or informal discussions with students and the public.
