Welcome back, Buffs! We鈥檙e in the final stretch now so buckle down and make your winter break a victory lap. I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful 兔子先生传媒文化作品 on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. Winter skating rink in Central Park grand opening.听Come down to Central Park (13th Street between Canyon and Arapahoe) for an evening of free ice skating for the community between 6 and 8 p.m. in honor of the season opening of Winter Skate. There will also be a performance by the Denver Figure Skating Club around 5 p.m. so come for the amazing showcase of artistry and athleticism and stay for the fun and free skating!

Take a break, pet a dog.听If you鈥檙e feeling the stress, then take a few minutes to partake in that age old stress-relieving activity of snuggling with dogs. From 1 to 3 p.m.听in the Tile Lounge of the Music Library in Imig there will be dogs galore for you to cuddle and pet and play with so take some time to relax and enjoy our four-legged friends.

Winter Grad Bash.听If you plan to graduate this December, then you鈥檙e officially invited to the Winter Grad Bash, hosted by the Herd Alumni Association in Koenig from 4 to 8 p.m. You can register in advance for this celebration of your graduation where you can claim free shwag, snack and drink for free, learn about the Herd, and generally enjoy the company of your fellow graduates!

Open Mic Night at the Dennis Small Cultural Center.听The DSCC welcomes everyone to participate in Open Mic Night, whether you want to perform your music, comedy听or poetry, or just come and watch some incredible acts. This event runs from 4:30 to 6 p.m.听in UMC 204, and there will be free food and admission, so don鈥檛 miss out!

One Flew West with The Social Animals.听Club 156 welcomes the talented One Flew West, a very popular local rock/pop group, with their youthfully spirited friends The Social Animals to play a rocking gig at 9 p.m. Check out the website to sample their sounds- you won鈥檛 be disappointed. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Wear your dancing shoes!

Holiday Music Festival.听Join the College of Music for their Annual Holiday Festival of light and sound. Come get in the holiday spirit in a decked out Macky Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.听and hear some of the classic holiday musical favorites performed live. Tickets are $20, and if you can鈥檛 get tickets for tonight, don鈥檛 fear; this event will repeat a few times this weekend.

A Christmas Carol.听If you鈥檝e never seen A Christmas Carol on the stage before, I highly recommend it. The Herd is offering a chance to travel with a group of your CU friends down to the Denver Performing Arts Center (super cool place) to see this show live. Tickets are $20 for Herd members and $25 for other students and include entrance to a pre-reception starting at 5 p.m. It will be a great way to get in the holiday spirit!听

Mile 21 holiday a听cappella concert.听Swing by the Atlas building听at 7 p.m. for a free holiday a cappella concert! Mile 21 is one of many fine a cappella groups on campus and their music is really something special so come for their holiday themed musical repertoire!

Lights of December parade.听Turn out for the annual parade of lights that has been a Boulder tradition since before I was born. The parade snakes all around Pearl Street Mall (see the website for a map) starting at 6 p.m.听and features a plethora of local groups, free candy, loud music听and festive cheer. Be sure to dress warmly!

MARS screening and discussion.听Maybe you鈥檝e seen the commercials for the cool new National Graphic miniseries, MARS, which features current scientists talking the future of mankind on the fourth rock from the sun, as well as a fictional forward looking story of the first manned trip to the red planet. Author of Mars: Our Future on the Red Planet Leonard David and CU incoming dean of Engineering and Applied Science听Bobby Braun will be hosting a viewing party and discussion of the show from 7 to 9 p.m.听in the Glenn Miller Ballroom. This event is free and open to all, but be sure to RSVP online.听
