In advance of the Feb.Ìý13 event, campus members are encouraged to engage in the following "One Read":Ìýan article by Brian Arao and Kristi Clemens titled ÌýThe concept of "brave space" will be useful in many of theÌýsummit's sessions and beyond, which is why the Diversity and Inclusion Summit planning committee chose this text as aÌýOne ReadÌýfor ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ·.

The summit is presented by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement, the Chancellor’s Advisory Committees, Staff Council, Athletics and the city of Boulder.Ìý

Following the Diversity and Inclusion Summit,ÌýCU Athletics andÌýRecreation Services willÌýhost the Inclusive Sports Summit Feb. 14–15. Free and open to the public, the inaugural summit will cover social justice, LGBTQ, race and ethnicity, health and wellness, and careers in sport. Panelists will include current and former pro and student-athletes, national analysts and broadcasters, scholars and others.

  • From Safe Spaces to Brave SpacesÌýwith Brian Shimamoto: 9:30-10:45 a.m., UMC Glenn MillerÌýWestÌýBallroom. ShimamotoÌýwill engage participants in a conversation about creating brave spaces in order to challenge students—and ourselves—to stay in the difficult dialogue that brings about real change.
  • Creating Brave Space with Brian Shimamoto: 11 a.m. toÌý12:15 p.m., UMC Glenn MillerÌýWestÌýBallroom.ÌýParticipants will have an opportunity to engage with one another to discuss how to apply the principles for creating brave spaceÌýin different environments on campus. Shimamoto also will demonstrateÌýtechniques to create brave spaceÌýin the dialogue about diversity and inclusion.
