University of Colorado Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano, Athletic Director Mike Bohn and new head football coach Mike MacIntyre today unveiled a $170 million, multi-year proposal to upgrade CU-Boulder鈥檚 football facilities before the Intercollegiate Athletics subcommittee of the CU Board of Regents at the board鈥檚 monthly meeting in Colorado Springs.

Brooks: MacIntyre makes winning first impression

It was a whirlwind day for Mike MacIntyre, who was approached by CU, presented a weekend offer and accepted before first setting foot on the Boulder campus. He arrived in Colorado at mid-afternoon Monday, met with CU President Bruce Benson, Chancellor Phil DiStefano and Bohn, then met with his new team for about 35 minutes prior to the press conference. He advised them to 鈥渄o well on exams, don鈥檛 do a double negative 鈥 just because you鈥檙e down a little on what happened, I鈥檓 here to help you move forward.

The University of Colorado administration vows Jon Embree鈥檚 successor will find a renewed commitment to football when he steps on campus and continues the process of rebuilding the besieged Buffaloes program. Chancellor Phil DiStefano and Athletic Director Mike Bohn said at a Monday news conference that CU recognizes how high the bar has been raised with the Buffs joining the Pac-12 Conference 鈥 and the school鈥檚 hiring of a new coach will reflect that.

Embree will not return as Colorado head football coach

Jon Embree has been dismissed as University of Colorado head football coach, athletic director Mike Bohn announced Sunday evening. Embree took over as the school鈥檚 24th full-time head coach in December 2010, just the third alumni to do so. In two seasons, his teams compiled a 4-21 record. This past fall, CU finished 1-11, which included a 1-8 record in Pac-12 Conference play. University of Colorado President Bruce Benson, CU-Boulder Chancellor Philip P. Fire the coach? Not so fast says a new study of elite college football teams. Professors from the University of Colorado and Loyola University Chicago studied what happened to the records of college football teams that replaced a head coach for performance reasons in the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division 1-A) between 1997 and 2010. Over this period, an average of 10 percent of FBS teams fired their coach each year because of the team鈥檚 poor performance on the field.
