As you likely realize, last Thursday, Dec. 3 was the launch date for the upgrade to the campus PeopleSoft Human Capital Management System (HCM). This will be followed on Thursday, Dec. 10 by the launch of the upgraded PeopleSoft Financials (FIN). These two dates also mark the completion of nearly two years of effort on the part of the CU System and a wide range of individuals on the Boulder campus.

At the beginning of October, our campus introduced a new policy that limits hourly student employees to a maximum of 25 hours per week (or 50 hours per bi-weekly pay period) during the academic year. Throughout the month of September, several university faculty and staff will be contacted by representatives from Huron Consulting Group to participate in an on-campus interview as part of the university鈥檚 Space Utilization Optimization Initiative. The university has contracted Huron to analyze CU-Boulder鈥檚 use of all campus space and to offer recommendations for optimizing its use. The goals of this initiative are to enhance the teaching and learning experience for all students, and to discover ways to achieve greater efficiencies and more creative uses with the space and resources we have.

Last fall, The Board of Regents asked each University of Colorado campus to develop a process for prioritizing its academic and administrative areas. Since that time, the University of Colorado Boulder has been working in earnest to engage students, faculty and staff in a process of objective and evidence-based decision making. This initiative, while challenging in many ways, is a real opportunity for CU-Boulder to further develop quantitative data to inform our decisions and help us better serve our students and the state of Colorado. We wanted to share our thoughts with you about this process and our next steps.

As a campus, we have been challenged by Chancellor DiStefano to continue the process of reinventing and realigning the way we do our work. To foster this innovation, we want to ensure that we are making smart decisions that support our goal of recruiting, developing and retaining the best talent in the market. One of the first interactions faculty, staff and student employees have with CU-Boulder is through human resources. Whether it is the recruiting process, filling out necessary paperwork or making sure we follow best practices for review and promotion, there is a dedicated cadre of individuals on the campus who are responsible for making this work go smoothly. On Oct. 28, we will be launching a comprehensive survey help us better understand the nature and type of work these professionals do for our institution.
