Dear %%First Name%%:
To ensure consistent visibility for the establishment of all new centers, the provost and vice chancellor for research and innovation and dean of the institutes formally announce new research centers when they are authorized. In accordance with this process, we are announcing a newly established center below.
The University of Colorado Boulder has established the CIRES Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation (CEEE), which focuses on excellence and inclusion in earth and environmental science education, engagement and career development, and serving and engaging diverse audiences such as students, educators, scientists, communities and the public.
The new center is advancing the interdisciplinary and collaborative research mission of its parent institute, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES). This new status reflects the substantial growth and evolution of the former CIRES Education & Outreach Program, which has roughly tripled in size and funding since Dr. Anne Gold became director in 2017. Today, 36 people work in the new center, including education researchers, curriculum developers听and evaluation experts, on more than 30 externally funded projects, many of them drawing on partnerships from across the university. Gold will serve as director of the Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation, or CEEE, pronounced 鈥淐-triple-E.鈥澨
Overall, CEEE aims to connect people with Earth system and environmental science, to inspire curiosity and action. CEEE will, for example, work to:听
- Enhance science education and literacy, including data literacy and awareness of solutions
- Promote diversity, equity听and inclusion in STEM fields and support early-career scientists with training and community-building
- Measure the impact of environmental education and engagement programs and share findings and best practices through publication
CEEE will also serve as a hub for environmental education research and evaluation and early-career support on and beyond campus, catalyzing collaboration among 兔子先生传媒文化作品 departments and institutes, federal science agencies such as NOAA, and others.听兔子先生传媒文化作品 the to learn more.
Establishment of centers at 兔子先生传媒文化作品
兔子先生传媒文化作品 centers are single or multidisciplinary units organized to conduct research, scholarship and creative work, education and/or leadership and service activities.听
Centers are typically organized around the investigation of a specific theme, issue, project or policy topic, but often encompass interdisciplinary work spanning a number of academic fields. Centers generally have collaborative intent, and an annual operating budget that is, in part, fiscally independent of academic units.
The establishment and reauthorization of centers is administered by the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) on behalf of the university. The dean or director (or their designee) of the parent unit鈥攖he college, school, institute, etc. responsible for oversight of a center鈥攔ecommends the establishment of the proposed center to the vice chancellor for research and innovation and dean of the institutes. RIO ensures that all proposals for new centers are reviewed and approved by University Counsel and the Office of Budget & Fiscal Planning prior to authorization. Those that do not satisfy the review process will not be approved.
