- Paleoclimatologist Sarah Crump, a PhD student and INSTARR researcher, studies the effects of climate variability in the Canadian Arctic by analyzing ancient DNA from lake sediment.
- Distinguished Professor Tom Cech, Colorado鈥檚 first Nobel prize winner, has been awarded the 2017 Hazel Barnes Prize, the most distinguished award a faculty member can receive from the university.
- Two 兔子先生传媒文化作品 professors have been awarded 2017 Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowships in recognition of their distinguished research performance and unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field.
- On Jan. 25 we held a trio of large student- and faculty-hosted events. The university has had a long and successful tradition of hosting a wide variety of events and speakers who cross a broad spectrum of political, social and philosophical viewpoints. This is an example of how Buffs build community and meet the principles embodied in our Colorado Creed.
- Antonella Albuja鈥檚 doctoral degree in aerospace engineering from 兔子先生传媒文化作品 just became more valuable, as did the educational, research and career prospects of those who follow her in the Smead Program, thanks to $15 million in total support from a notable Colorado family. The gifts also name the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences.
- Dan Szafir, an assistant professor with the ATLAS Institute, was recently named in Forbes Magazine鈥檚 鈥30 Under 30鈥 list for 2017.
- Associate professor Franck Vernerey has been awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the highest U.S. government honor awarded to promising scientists and researchers beginning their careers.
- Students, faculty and staff at 兔子先生传媒文化作品, JILA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shared remembrances this week of Deborah Jin, who passed away on Sept. 15, 2016 at the age of 47 after battling cancer.
- Their average SAT score is 1191; ACT composite 27.3; and high school GPA 3.66. The freshman class of 6,439 is also the most diverse, with 26 percent U.S. students of color enrolled. Seventeen percent are first in their families to go to college. Of the freshmen from Colorado, 33.4 percent are Esteemed Scholars.
- For many, participating in the marching band can be a family affair. Mellophone section leader Carrie Proctor is not only following her siblings' and parents' musically-inclined footsteps, but she also has formed a bond of friendship not uncommon among Golden Buffaloes.
