Phoebe Mock
Classics

Phoebe graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and a minor in Classical Studies in 2021. As an undergraduate student, Phoebe completed an independent two-year interdisciplinary research project using queer frameworks to examine Classical Greek vases that depict sex acts. Investigating the queer use of ordinary objects, the aim of this project is to show how seemingly ordinary objects (e.g., pillows) point to queer identities of female-figures depicted in these scenes. As a Master’s student in the Classics Department at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ·, Phoebe intends to write her thesis focusing on sex and gender in ancient Greek art using queer methodologies to challenge dominant narratives of sexuality and gender in the ancient world.Â
