CHA summer stipends are designed for graduate students conducting research in the humanities and the arts during the summer months who don't already receiveÌýuniversity-sponsored funding (in any amount). The $5,000ÌýstipendÌýwill be paid out at the end of May and June in equal payments. ÌýThe excellence of the project will be the main criterion for selection.Ìý

CHA Dissertation Fellowships

TheÌýCHA offersÌýtwo dissertationÌýfellowships open to any ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· PhDÌýcandidateÌýworking in theÌýhumanitiesÌýand arts, campus-wide. The fellowshipÌýcovers tuition for up to 5 dissertation hoursÌýper semester,Ìýmandatory student fees, student health insurance, and a stipend equal to that of a 50% Graduate Part-Time Instructor. Recipients may not hold another appointment such as a teaching or research assistantship during the fellowship period but may hold a 0% appointment such as a grader or reader.

Donor-Sponsored Graduate Student Grants

The Graduate School administers two grant funds that support the research, scholarship, and creative work of graduate students from all departments. Made possible by the generosity of our donors, these funds are:

  • Beverly Sears Graduate Student Grant Fund
  • Cynthia H. Schultz Graduate Student Grant Fund

Grants are for either $1,000Ìýor $5,000, and are competitive.ÌýIf you apply for a $5,000 grant you must provide a budget that fully justifies the request.Ìý

Eaton Graduate Student Research Awards

The Eaton Graduate Research Awards is a semi-annual competition for graduate students working in the humanities and arts to support conference participationÌýwhere students present a paper or perform or display their work for those in the arts.Ìý

The excellence of the project will be the main criterion for selection.Ìý

Edward G. Seidensticker Japan Summer Research Grant

The Center for Asian Studies invites ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· graduate students working on Japan to apply for the Edward G. Seidensticker Japan Summer Research Grant. The Center will offer several grants of up to a maximum of $1200 each to help fund graduate-level researchÌýon Japan,ÌýJapaneseÌýlanguage study in a formal program, or a combination of research and language studyÌýduring Summer 2023.

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships

FLAS fellowships administered by the Center for Asian Studies (CAS) are awarded competitively to students studying modern Asian languages. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) funds and oversees these awards, under the provisions of Title VI of the Higher Education Act. Funding is contingent upon annual ED program approval, Federal regulations, and continued Congressional funding, all of which may change from year to year. FLAS awards cannot be deferred.

Graduate School Student Travel Grant

The Graduate School offers partial funding for ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ·Ìýgraduate students to present theirÌýwork at meetings or conferencesÌýoutside Colorado. The Graduate School provides a travel grant of $450 for domestic conferences and $700 for international conferences. Funds will be applied directly to the student's universityÌýaccountÌýafterÌýthe dates of travel have passed and proof of travel has been submittedÌý(you must be enrolled during the term that theÌýtravel occurs or the funds will applied to the next term you are enrolled). If the account balance is zero, a refund via direct deposit. If the account balance is not zero, the funds will go toward covering that balance.ÌýThe grant is treated like a fellowship and reported to the Office of Financial Aid; therefore, please be aware it may affect your student loan package.ÌýThisÌýgrant is contingent on continued funding by the Graduate School.

Graduate and Professional Student GovernmentÌýTravel Grants

The Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) awards funding (up to $300) to individual graduate students each academic semester to support travel to academic conferences, meetings, or other events related to the student's studies. Students are eligible to receive travel aid only once in their tenure as a ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· graduate student. This allows more students a chance to get funding. Please review the Policy and example essays below.ÌýÌýPlease Note:ÌýThe GPSG Travel Grant is different from the Graduate School Student Travel Grant. Applying to GPSG Travel Grant does not affect your eligibility to apply to the the other.

    Hazel Barnes Flat

    The Hazel Barnes Flat in the heart of London is a gift to scholars in the humanities and arts by Hazel Barnes (1915-2008), the much admired Professor of Philosophy at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· and founder of the Interdisciplinary Program in the Humanities. Her will stipulates that the flat be made available to ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ· faculty and graduate students working in the humanities and the artsÌýand that its operation be entrusted to the Center for Humanities &Ìýthe Arts.ÌýThe flat is arranged so that two independent parties may stay there at the same time if necessary. There are two bedrooms (the second has just a single bed) and two bathrooms.
