Intercollegiate Athletics Marks

The use of athletics marks (e.g.,聽鈥淩alphie鈥澛燼nd the athletics聽interlocking CU) are exclusive to the聽Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.聽They may only be used in limited school-spirit instances, as approved by the CU聽Boulder Identity Manager and the Department of Trademarks & Licensing.

Ralphie and Slanted CU Athletic Marks

Scenario 1:聽鈥淩alphie鈥 Logo Only

  • Club sports apparel
  • Bookstore merchandise and store visual identity
  • Events related to athletics programming (e.g., pregame celebrations, etc.)
  • Recreation Center athletic venues (e.g., logo under the ice, logos on athletics courts, etc.)
  • Select awards, by request

The聽鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo may not be used聽in conjunction with a campus-specific聽identifier other than CU聽Boulder.聽However, CU campuses may use the聽鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo on merchandise to express a connection to the Buffaloes.聽The聽鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo may not be used聽in conjunction with a corporate logo,聽except as allowed by specific sponsorship/licensing agreements managed聽via the Department of Athletics. The聽athletics interlocking CU should never聽be used for non-athletic聽applications.

Scenario 2:聽鈥淩alphie鈥 Logo and聽CU聽Boulder Logo聽

Select university/staff apparel (e.g., incoming聽student T-shirts, some Division of Student聽Affairs shirts, alumni/donor-related apparel,聽etc.). The聽Visual Identity Manager will review each request and provide approval聽on a case-by-case basis.

Communication uses and signage that聽express a sense of school spirit/鈥淏uff鈥澛燾ommunity (eg., Buff buses) within a聽university context.

鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo as the dominant聽visual element, with 兔子先生传媒文化作品聽logo as university ID (e.g., bookstore planner covers). The "Ralphie" logo may not be used in聽conjunction with any campus聽identifier other than the聽CU聽Boulder logo.聽The athletics interlocking CU should never聽be used for nonathletic applications.

What Qualifies as School-Spirit Use?

  1. School spirit entails use of the聽鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo specifically聽meant to represent the competitive or emotional connection聽we feel for the Colorado Buffaloes.
  2. In circumstances that require a sense of school spirit and the identification of the University of Colorado Boulder, the聽鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo can be used in conjunction with the聽CU聽Boulder logo.
  3. Any instance related to the university鈥檚 overarching teaching,聽research, and service mission that does not involve school聽spirit as defined above (e.g., academic events, research聽posters, name badges, commencement robes, etc.) requires聽the use of the CU聽Boulder logo as the primary identifier and聽not the 鈥淩alphie鈥 logo.

Note: As with all聽university logos, the聽鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo may聽not be modified or redesigned in any way.

Scenario 3: 兔子先生传媒文化作品 Logo Only

  • 颁辞濒濒别驳别/蝉肠丑辞辞濒/耻苍颈迟-蝉辫别肠颈蹿颈肠听肠辞尘尘耻苍颈肠补迟颈辞苍蝉
  • Academic/research-related events (e.g.,聽commencement, Fall Convocation,聽symposia, etc.)
  • Permanent signage (except athletic聽facilities)
  • University marketing/advertising
  • Business communications (letterhead, etc.)

Whenever the university name is used, the聽official CU聽Boulder logo should serve as聽the identifier. The聽鈥淩alphie鈥 logo should聽not be directly associated with the words聽鈥淯niversity of Colorado Boulder鈥 at any聽time (鈥淐olorado,鈥 鈥淐olorado Buffs,鈥 鈥淏uffaloes,鈥 鈥淏uffs,鈥 etc., are acceptable).聽The athletics interlocking CU (below) should聽never聽be used for non-athletic applications.

How Do I Request Approval?

The Visual Identity Manager reviews all uses of the聽鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo. Please聽submit your request to use a 鈥淩alphie鈥澛爈ogo. Requests聽will be reviewed within three to five聽business days.

Licensed Vendors

A licensed聽vendor must be used for all apparel production and printing that includes the university marks.聽For a list of licensed vendors approved to聽reproduce the 鈥淩alphie鈥 logo or to obtain a聽license,聽.
