Property Management Training
Employees who complete all three sessions will receive a departmental property manager (DPM) certification.
This training course is designed for new or experienced employees and covers all phases of departmental property management. Training and certification are sponsored by the Campus Controller’s Office, Office of Contracts and Grants and Property Services.

Session I: General Overview
Hosted by Campus Controller's Office, this session covers:
- The inventory system and process during COVID
- Guidelines and best practices relating to purchasing, tagging, inventorying, updating location, transfering and surplusing capital equipment ($5,000+)
Already completed the DPM training? We encourage you to attend this session to learn about the new system and process.

Session II: Processing Surplus Property
The Surplus Property training course is the second part of Property Accounting's three-part certification series. This section of the course will cover university policy with regard to surplus property disposals and the transfer of assets to entities outside of the university.
The course provides an overview of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Ʒ’s Surplus Property Disposal policy and process, as well as providing details on the use of the software.
We host Q&A sessions during the late spring to early summer of each year to provide staff opportunities to ask questions in person and tour the Distribution Center.
Session III: Managing Sponsored Project Property
Sponsor Funded Equipment Purchases
Hosted by the Office of Contracts and Grants, this session will explain the process for managing the lifecycle of equipment purchased with sponsor funding.This workshop is focused on managing property purchased on sponsored awards. Topics covered in the training include:
- Definitions of property and proposal development tips
- Award terms and conditions for property
- Sponsor requirements for purchasing, management, and use
- Award property closeout
Participants will also receive an overview of additional resources for sponsored projects property management available to them, including:

- Cognos reports
This year's training has significant emphasis in discussion and attendee participation, using real-world examples of the training concepts in our work in research administration.
