When should I start applying?

For May grads, these organizations tend to start the hiring process in March. December grads will want to start their search in September or October.

These tend to be posted throughout the year, but most are posted in late spring and summer for the following academic year. There are opportunities at all local universities/colleges, not just ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú´«Ã½ÎÄ»¯×÷Æ·.

How to Stand Out

3 things to consider when deciding where you’d like to gain experience:

  • Population: age range, level of schooling, community, etc.
  • Setting:ÌýEducation, healthcare/hospital, mental health facility, non-profit, etc.
  • Issues or human concerns you are passionate about: relationships, addiction, learning abilities, depression, anxiety, chronic or severe mental health issues, trauma/abuse, eating disorders, athlete performance, autism, etc.

Utilize the Volunteer Resource Center (VRC) and Handshake to learn about opportunities in the Boulder community and check out the PSYC Internships as well.

This is a great way to gain additional experience while also facilitating discussions among students in class about various topics being learned in lectures. It demonstrates leadership, teaching skills, and knowledge of the material. This experience also gives you the opportunity to develop an in-depth relationship with a professor or instructor, which can help in the future with requesting letters of recommendation for graduate school.

If you are a Neuroscience or Psychology student interested in pursuing graduate school or a career in research, it is important to gain research experience.

Many of these listings require a Bachelor’s degree and undergraduate-level experience working in a lab. The listings are found on specific University . Read through a specific Professional Research Assistant job description to get a sense for the kind of skills and experience the University is seeking for a typical entry level research position.
