Law School Professors Honored With Rare Books Purchase

The CU-Boulder Law School Library will add two rare books to its collection in honor of Professors J. Dennis Hynes and Norton L. Steuben to commemorate their appointments as Nicholas Rosenbaum Professors of Law. A ceremony will be held today, Oct. 6, in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom of the Fleming Law Building at 4 p.m., followed by a reception in the Moorhead-Rutledge Lounge.

Quark Inc. Founder Tim Gill Receives Award From CU-Boulder College of Engineering

Tim Gill, founder and chairman of Denver-based Quark Inc., has been selected to receive the 1999 Dean's Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence from CU-Boulder's College of Engineering and Applied Science. He is receiving the award at the college's scholarship banquet on the evening of Oct. 5. Gill earned his bachelor's degree in applied mathematics in 1976 and went on to head a $1 billion computer software company. Quark Inc. is a leader in the high-end electronic publishing and design industry.

John Sayre Receives Highest CU Law School Award

John Sayre, a longtime partner in the Denver firm Davis Graham and Stubbs, was recognized Sept. 18 for his years of accomplishment in the legal profession and in public service by the University of Colorado School of Law. Sayre received the law school's highest honor, the William Lee Knous award, named for former governor and CU alumnus William Lee Knous. It was SayreÂ’s second major award from the CU Law School. In 1994, he received the CU Law Alumni Award for Distinguished Achievement in Government and Public Service.

CU-Boulder Alums' Documentary Delves Into Organ Donation

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder is sponsoring a special screening of the documentary "The Kindness of Strangers." The film, produced by CU-Boulder graduates James Redford (son of Robert Redford) and Maro Chermayeff, delves into organ donation and transplants from the personal perspective of recipients, donors and their families. The documentary, to be shown Thursday, Oct. 14, at 3:15 p.m. in the new Humanities Building, basement auditorium, will be followed by a discussion.

Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar To Address Affirmative Action At CU Oct. 20

Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar will speak on affirmative action and outreach in higher education at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Oct. 20. Salazar's talk will be in Old Main Chapel from noon to 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by the ChancellorÂ’s Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs. SalazarÂ’s visit is an important and timely one, according to Ofelia Miramontes, interim associate vice chancellor for diversity and CACMA co-chair.
