State Biotechnology Conference Slated For CU-Boulder On Sept. 14

Scientists, engineers, students and business representatives will present their latest research findings and exchange new ideas at the 12th annual Colorado Biotechnology Symposium at the University of Colorado on Sept. 14. The conference, to be held at the University Memorial Center, will bring together biotechnology researchers from university, industry and government laboratories in Colorado to share recent research and development progress.

CU-Boulder School Of Journalism Hosts Panel Discussion On Columbine Media Coverage

A panel discussion on "Covering Columbine: Decision Making During Crisis" will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. in Hale Science, room 270, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The seminar is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Meg Moritz, journalism professor and associate dean, will moderate the discussion. According to Moritz, the discussion will reveal what went on in newsrooms as the story broke and how journalists struggled to be comprehensive, competitive and yet sensitive to an entire community in crisis.

CU-Boulder Alumni Association To Race For The Cure Oct. 3

A group from the CU-Boulder Alumni Association will participate in the Race for the Cure 5K run/walk starting at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at DenverÂ’s Civic Park. "We are expecting a team of 100 alumni, students and their families to join us on race day," said Kent Zimmerman, president of the CUAA.

Law Professor Robert Nagel Named Director Of Byron White Center

The University of Colorado School of Law has named a nationally recognized constitutional law specialist to head its center for constitutional study. Professor Robert F. Nagel will be the new director of the law schoolÂ’s Byron White Center for the Study of Constitutional Law. "The White Center is a major educational resource for our students and for the community, "said Nagel. "The possibilities are exciting; I am happy to be involved."

CU-Boulder Study Abroad Hosts Peer Advising Fair At UMC Sept. 15

CU-Boulder Study Abroad Program Sends Students Overseas On Scholarships

The Study Abroad Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder has awarded more than $94,000 in scholarships and 71 exchange positions to 204 students enrolled in study abroad programs this summer, fall or academic year. The aid comes from the program's auxiliary accounts, alumni donations, the Colorado Commission on Higher Education Diversity Fund and foundation donations. Exchange positions are not monetary awards but a reduction in study abroad program fees worth several thousands of dollars thanks to agreements with certain foreign universities.

CU-Boulder Awards Thirteen Students Diversity Scholarships To Study Abroad

Several undergraduate study abroad students at the University of Colorado at Boulder have received scholarships to study in other countries this summer, fall and academic year. Two diversity scholarships, one awarded by CU-Boulder and the other by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, help cover expenses in the Study Abroad program for Colorado residents who are underrepresented on the Boulder campus because they are ethnic minorities or from the state's rural areas.

1999 Safety Measures At CU-Boulder Improve On Existing Programs

Following is an update of campus safety information for the University of Colorado at Boulder. While this fact sheet doesnÂ’t list every safety measure found on campus, it does provide information about some of the most visible. EMERGENCY CALL BOXES * Nineteen call boxes were installed in 1998-99 at a cost of $300,000, with the final one installed at the corner of 13th and Pennsylvania streets in July 1999. Twelve call boxes were in place previously, bringing the total to 31 emergency call boxes on the main CU-Boulder campus.
